Solidarity with the people of Myanmar
On this day two years ago, the military staged a coup d’état to seize the power in Myanmar. This date marks a major setback for democracy.
- This day marks a dark chapter for democracy. Our hearts are with the people of Myanmar and the brave generation fighting for their freedom.
The military junta rules with brutal force against its civilians, leaving little to no space for the people of Myanmar to protest the coup or to stand up for democratic rights.
- The violence against minorities, civilians and human rights activists must cease immediately, says Kobbeltvedt.
The Rafto Foundation appeals to all states committed to the protection of human rights, to express their unequivocal condemnation of the military junta’s treatment of the people of Myanmar. We demand that Aung San Suu Kyi and all civilian leaders must be released and the reinstatement of the democratic elected government.
